Catie Constas
is a nonbinary mixed-media artist based in Brighton, Massachusetts USA.
They work in a wide variety of mediums, spanning from sculpture and textiles to performance, tattooing, music, and curation. Catie is also a children’s studio art teacher, educating with an emphasis on early childhood artistic expression and materials exploration.
Catie’s preferred mediums are sewing and textiles, liquid latex, plaster and silicones, sculptural assemblage and collage, and the artist’s own body. Employing an experimental and iterative approach to materiality, Catie creates work about the at once terrifying and terrific experience of inhabiting a human form. Catie’s work explores the body as a home for the self, and how one’s personal mythologies and memories infiltrate and shape this home. Their work is created with the intention to hold memory and experience outside of the body; a physical movement from the self into the object. The result is a powerful transmutation of the abstract into the corporeal.
As an emerging artist, Catie is currently seeking individuals, spaces and organizations which possess a strong vision for community-involved and forward-thinking art making. Catie graduated from the Boston College Studio Art program in December 2023 with a B.A. in Studio Art, concentrating in mixed-media studies. Over the past few years, Catie has shown in numerous groups shows, hosted and curated workshops and art events, pop-up galleries, and worked personally and in community to strengthen their practice and craft.
