Dollhouse: Memory Lives in the Walls, Mixed media on paper, fabric, ribbon, yarn, thread, polyfil, 2022

Dollhouse: Memory Lives in the Walls is intended to raise questions about the role of trauma and memory in how we relate to ourselves, our bodies, our desires and our fears. The small dolls and the drawings on the walls are repeated specters of memory, living within and haunting the central figure. Hearts with embroidered text adorn the body of this central figure as well, containing emotional and often contradictory phrases or moments of memory written in my sketchbook over the course of the past year. All the dolls in the scene are adorned with ribbon and lace, but in different ways; some are more constrained and bound than decorative. This is representative of the way memory can operate in both constructive and destructive ways to influence our identity, actions, and relationships.
