“Dwelling Still” is a whimsically disorienting structure of personal episodic memory. Recalling and amalgamating together the childhood home with flashes of rooms both real and imagined, the artist invites the viewer into their uncanny and unsettling dreamscape.

Each section of the home is outfitted with miniature furniture and characters created by hand, using only materials found in the artist’s current home studio. At first glance, the structure appears as a normal and even childlike dollhouse. However, as the details of each room come into view, we are greeted on the first floor by a stuffed rabbit spilling its glowing guts. The dining room boasts a blood filled toilet and children’s toys stuck with pins. Glancing through the cutout windows and past the frilly exterior of the home reveals an internal turmoil.

Yet, the home still retains a certain wonder. It can still be sweet, a dwelling, a place of reflection. For those feeling stuck dwelling, cloudily remembering, may the home may act as a space to rebuild and restructure.

Creating this new home was representative of how memories can be carried out from the body and into objectivity. It is through this process of carrying, creating, grieving and growing that one may begin to build internal trust and safety. Dwelling in this newly built home of secrets and memories, is the ability to build that safety and trust for myself, too.
