Welcome into my living room. Venerable vessels is an exploration of the body as a venerable vessel for memory and expression.

The body acts as a home for one’s desires, fears, memories, and physical flesh. As with the home, you are entitled to paint the walls or build an addition to suit your needs, so too is the body indefinitely moldable to suit your current form.

As with the home, the body accumulates a story represented in accumulated physical reminders. Recognition of the body as a venerable object with ethereal and erotic meaning, as well as the body’s ability for ever-changing expression and flux, allows for a celebration of the self as a sacred act of transformation. Growth is a process of change.

Objects too carry memory, much like the body carries with it all experiences from childhood onwards. When we reject the supposed mundanity of objects and pay attention to their meaning and physicality, we can recognize the important connection between the material and the incorporeal within our bodies.

Throughout this installation of a homey and comfortable living room, handmade, gifted, and differently acquired objects each carry with them a story of the body’s movement though life.

The holy, the profane, and experiences of pleasure and pain all come together to form a familiar home for the weight of bodily experience.
